The South African government announced that it will not renew Special Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEP), which provided for the documentation of qualifying Zimbabweans to legally reside in the country for a period of 4 years.
The Minister in the President’s Office Mondli Gungubele said Zimbabweans will have a 12-month grace period to apply for a visa that they qualify for under South African immigration regulations.
You are allowed to freely exit and enter South Africa during the grace period of 2022. However, you need to have applied for a visa before 31st December 2022 or you need to leave before this date.
There is a range of categories of visas you can apply for, and it is clearly stated that ZEP holders will be able to continue with work-related activities during the grace period granted they have proof in the form of a VFS receipt that they have applied for a new visa under South African immigration regulations.
